The new Serrahna boutique in College
Avenue's Rockridge district of Oakland brings the world to you, and how? Inspired
by the culmination of
the owner Andrea Serrahn's material
indulgence in many faraway lands, this showcase has come to be her crowning
glory. As a longtime designer quite
inspired
by the glit
and glam of Bombay's Bollywood, the camel clans of the Kutchi desert, and
the chic Euro back roads, Serrahn celebrates the fusion of these two
worlds.

FULBRIGHT IN INDIA
Serrahna exemplifies a textile mosaic of Andrea Serrahn's experiences
while globetrotting throughout Southeast Asia, and in most
part,
India. As a Fulbright Scholar residing in the same Gujarati deserts
that suffered the devastating quake of 2001, Serrahn finessed
many
of her passions for the vast array of textiles. There she sat in
the company of many an Ustad, Urdu pundits of the textile trade.
Serrahn lived her life around cloth: cottons, silks, wools,
the
weaving process, embroidery, block printing, and bandhini: the
art of tie & dye via the use of natural dyes. Nowadays, you will
find the designer's collection textured with an array of such, all
cut with a contemporary twist. Think "Monsoon Wedding" and
you will get the idea.....
